Parting is where a wig stops looking like a wig. The base construction under the crown decides whether the client can push the part left, right or diagonally without exposing a wall of dark knots.
1. How Each Base Behaves at the Part
A true silk top conceals knots beneath a layer of silk, giving a scalp-like surface that can be parted in any direction. Mono top achieves the same multi-directional parting with a slightly more textured, knitted surface. Standard lace bases part freely but show knots unless they are carefully bleached.
2. Where Full Lace Wins
Full lace remains the most versatile construction because the entire crown is a parting surface and the unit can be tied into a high ponytail. The trade-off is fragility: lace requires gentler handling than a reinforced silk or mono panel.
3. Matching Base to Bio Hair Condition
Clients with fine or thinning bio hair benefit from a silk top foundation, because any dark knots or mesh shadow shows through sparse hair. Where the client's own hair is dense and healthy, a lighter full lace base keeps the unit cooler and flatter.
